How to clean and maintain every type of bag
· Bindu Editorial

PU, canvas, nylon and straw all fail in different ways. Here is how to keep each one looking new.
Cleaning a bag badly ruins it faster than not cleaning it at all. Match the method to the material.
PU and faux leather
Wipe with a barely damp cloth, then dry immediately. Never leave it in the sun to dry — heat cracks the coating.
Canvas
Spot clean with mild soap and a soft brush. Do not put it in a washing machine; the shape never comes back.
Nylon
The most forgiving. Warm water and soap, air dry away from direct heat.
Straw
Dust with a dry brush only. Water swells the weave.
Storage
Stuff the bag with paper and keep it in a cloth bag. Plastic traps moisture and grows mould in monsoon.
